Experiencing Chinese Culture in Its Entirety
The College was invited again this year to Jinan, China for the exciting Chinese Cultural Tour in March. The once-in-a-life-time opportunity allowed our students to live with Chinese families in a ‘Home stay’. This was a fantastic opportunity for our Years 7 to 11 children to be immersed in the Chinese environment, experiencing the culture in its entirety: language, people and customs, as well as visiting its breathtaking scenic spots and landmarks.
Our children were certainly noticed as they walked around the city and other tourist spots, often being asked to stop for photos and conversations in broken English and Chinese.
Highlights included trekking to the top of Mount Tai, a visit down a crowded alley for dazzling street food and singing the Australian National Anthem in the middle of a city park in traditional Chinese dress, to a huge crowd.
All students were excellent ambassadors for our College, and will be sorely missed by their home stay families.
We finished off the tour with a day at Shanghai Disney – what an experience! It certainly meant that all students and staff slept very well on the long flight home. The College looks forward to hosting students from Jinan, China in the months ahead.
