Koalas Living on the Edge!
The timing of our Senior Geography field trip to the Daisy Hill Koala Centre could not have been better, considering the recent predictions in the media that the estimated 80,000 koalas in Australia could become ‘functionally extinct’ by 2050. The reasons for this dire prediction were investigated by our Year 12 students who are currently studying Sustainable Biodiversity and will be collating a Field Report to make recommendations for the successful breeding of an Aussie icon. The loss of suitable habitat has always been a concern to animal conservationists, and our students were able to discover what programs are currently in place, and what may need to be done at all levels of government and in the community as a whole.
The students thoroughly enjoyed their time at the Koala Centre and the very wet walk through the bush to collect extra data.
