Year 6 Canberra Tour 2019
At the end of Term 2, Year 6 had the privilege of going to Canberra, aided by the support of funding through the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER). After a ‘through-the-day-and-overnight’ journey, we arrived at Capital Country Holiday Park, ate breakfast, and then got straight into our tour. In an action-packed itinerary, Year 6 had the pleasure of attending many places of interest and significance, but here are a few of our highlights.
The Australian Institute of Sport was a favourite of the trip. When we got there we visited the Discovery Centre which was an interactive simulation of some of the sports the athletes trained in and we got a feel of what the athletes might go through. It was an inspiring experience. On our guided tour of some of the facilities, we got to see the athletes train in swimming, gym, volleyball and gymnastics. For some students they saw what to strive for.
Questacon was most definitely one of the favourites of the whole trip. It was highly interactive and exhilarating. We all learned so much about science and technology. The most thrilling exhibits included caged lightning, an earthquake simulator and a drop slide. It was an out of this world experience.
At the Royal Australian Mint, we got further understanding of the process of how coins are made. We saw the factory and we even got to make our own coin. Overall this was an interesting educational experience.
At the National Zoo and Aquarium we got the opportunity to interact with the deer, alpacas, an emu and we even got to hold a snake. Some students got to witness a jaguar trying to “play” with them through thick glass!
Parliament House was very informative. Year 6 learnt a lot about how Parliament runs on a daily basis. We all enjoyed the role-play of Parliament on the tour.
It is probably fair to say that all students had unforgettable experiences during the Tour. Kangaroo Bus Lines were amazing. The drivers were so friendly and knew lots of interesting things about the places we visited. In conclusion, this trip was the highlight of the whole year! So far…
