SkiWi 2019
During the Term 2 holidays a group of thirty-six students and four teachers packed their bags ready to shred the slopes on the New Zealand ski trip. On Friday, 12 July we were all excited to hop on the plane and by the time we arrived at the lodge the fun had already begun! The week was jam-packed with adventurous activities in and around Mount Hutt. Unfortunately on the first day Mount Hutt was closed, however we got to experience the beautiful ‘land of the long white cloud’ with jet boating, gondolas and a very cold Antarctic Centre. Although those activities were fun, all of us couldn’t wait to get on the bus and head up the mountain.
For many, hitting the slopes was a challenge in itself, as most people had never seen the snow before. However, Mr Hooker’s many inspirational speeches sparked a flame of confidence in the hearts of every single skier and snowboarder. Five straight days of gnarly skiing and snowboarding is a once in a life time opportunity that will be remembered by everyone. Shared laughter and fond memories really made the trip worth while. Sadly, eight days and one broken arm later, we were back on the plane home, ending the SKiwi trip of 2019.
