Teaching Students to Deal with Bullying and Everyday Conflict Term 1 2020
An issue frequently presented in the media, and often of great concern to parents is that of bullying in schools.
Brisbane Christian College is a proactive school, helping children develop skills to deal with bullying and everyday conflict. This is done in part through the BRIDGE BUILDERS® program, organised and run with all children in our College from Prep to Year 12.
All Year 5 student leaders will receive specific training in mediating playground conflict from Jocelyne Chirnside from BRIDGE BUILDERS®. Jocelyne is well known to our College community, and is now in her fourth year of partnership with us at Brisbane Christian College.
Jocelyne Chirnside MEd (Hons) DipT JP is an author, parent and expert in equipping children with life skills. She uses her research and 30 years as a teacher and Social Emotional Learning consultant in over 90 schools to share insight in:
– the difference between conflict and bullying
– how to empower children to be resilient
– practical and easy-to-use skills to resolve conflict and reduce bullying.
There is also an opportunity for all Primary parents on Monday, 10 February from 6.30 – 8.00pm to hear from Jocelyn. The session will be run in B1, in Brydges Building which is the classroom under the School Office.
This is an amazing opportunity to hear from a leading expert in how our children can be empowered in this area. This session is for all Primary parents, as we are all on the journey of helping our children navigate the inevitable conflict that they will experience in their lives.
To assist parents to attend, the school will be offering the session free of charge. Childminding will not be available. Mrs Chirnside has advised that it is not appropriate for children to be present at the parent session.
If you have never had the opportunity to hear from Mrs Chirnside, or if you would like to have a refresher, please consider attending.
