Pre-Prep & Primary – Term 3 Week 4 (2020)

The College Management Team are continuing to check all the latest information regarding the COVID-19 health responses. CLICK here to access up-to-date Queensland Health information.

Health Stations

Brisbane Christian College will continue with daily temperature checks at health stations and on school buses each morning, particularly through this winter season. All children or staff with cold or flu symptoms or a temperature over 37.5 degrees will be immediately sent home. If your child is unwell or has a high temperature, please keep them home.

College Cross Country - Thursday, 13 August

Our annual College Cross Country has been re-scheduled for Thursday of this week (13 August) for all of our students from Prep through to Year 12.

The Cross Country will take place at our Middle and Secondary Campus. Primary School children will be bused from the Primary Campus on the College buses and will return as their events finish (a program will be available soon once times have been confirmed). Please ensure that your child goes to their class first so that all children are accounted for that day. Middle and Secondary School students will meet in their House meeting areas before proceeding to the Oval.

Due to current social distancing guidelines, parents will be unable to attend this event, however photo and video highlights will be available to help celebrate moments throughout the day for parents.

RNA Showground Public Holiday - Friday, 14 August

This Friday, 14 August is the RNA Showground Public Holiday. We pray that you have a restful and fun long weekend and that it goes really slowly.

Pre-Prep School Photos

Pre-Prep School photos are coming up soon. Mrs Palmby’s and Mrs Nussey’s classes will have their photos taken on Monday, 17 August and Mrs Simpson’s class will have their photos taken on Friday, 21 August. Similar to our other photo days, the photographers have introduced precautions that reduce waiting in lines and prevent adults and children being in close proximity with others. For group photos, each student will be photographed individually, with the group created digitally as a composite. All children are to wear full school uniforms. The attached image from the photographers further outline the changes in format.

This year’s ICAS tests will be taking place across three weeks coming up in August, commencing in Week 5.

The Primary Campus will be holding their tests on the Tuesday and Thursday and the Middle and Secondary Campus on the Monday and Wednesday of Weeks 5, 6 and 7.

The time table is as follows:
Week 5 – Science (Tuesday 18/08 Primary, Wednesday 19/08 M & S)
Week 6 – Digital Technologies (Tuesday 25/08 Primary, Monday 24/08 M & S)
English (Thursday 27/08 Primary, Wednesday 26/08 M & S)
Week 7 – Maths (Tuesday 01/09 Primary, Monday 31/08 M & S)
Spelling (Thursday 03/09 Primary, Wednesday 02/09 M & S)

Please ensure participating children arrive at school on time on those days. Middle and Secondary students will need their iPads to be fully charged.

Looking forward to seeing great results from all our participating College students.

Trish Summers and Corrine Sganzerla, College ICAS Coordinators

Primary Drop off and Pick up

It is wonderful to have our families back for Term 3 and to see our campus alive with learning, fun and laughter!

At the beginning of a term, it is helpful to be reminded of some key points regarding drop off and pick up. We ask all parents to take the time to read this information and become familiar with the processes.  When we all do the right thing, it helps the traffic in and out of the campus flow efficiently and safely. It is important as a College community that we look after each other and respect our neighbours as well. The majority of our families do the right thing and we thank you for that.

Drop and Go Zone

Please read here for information on how the ‘Drop and Go Zone’ operates.

For the safety of all, please do not let your children walk unaccompanied through the car park.  Children do not see the danger of cars in the same way as adults do.  As they are smaller, they are also more difficult to see.  The only safe thing to do is to walk your children through the car park with them very close to you, or (even better) holding your hand.

The Depot

We love the Depot and many parents have commented to us that it is the best coffee in Salisbury!  If buying food or drinks from the Depot, we ask parents to accompany their Primary children or at least be in the general vicinity watching them. Primary children will not be served if they are alone.  Children are not to leave the school gate to go to the Depot unaccompanied.

Pick Up Zone

Please refer again to the diagram provided for the ‘Drop and Go Zone’ and note the flow of traffic. Please follow the cars around the perimeter of the car park. Cars that attempt to pull into the Pick Up Zone without following the perimeter, will need to exit the car park and rejoin the queue.

Only Prep and Year 1 families without older siblings should be in the queue before 3.00pm. We ask all other families not to arrive until 3.10pm.

Our Neighbours

Please help us to respect our neighbours on Golda Avenue. A small number of our community are turning illegally out of our car park, parking across driveways, parking in ‘no standing’ zones and holding up the traffic by doing U-turns in our neighbour’s driveways (including St Pius X) and at Toms Street. As a College, we desire to be a blessing not a burden to the Salisbury community. Brisbane City Council has complimented the College on how safe and efficient our system is when working well. This requires ALL drivers to do the right thing.

No Right Turn

It is ILLEGAL to turn right out of our car park during peak drop off and pick up times or to park in the ‘no standing zone’ across the road.  The Police and Council Parking Inspectors are conducting spot checks throughout the term and have issued fines only in the last week.

We thank you for your continued cooperation in loving our community and keeping our children safe by following our campus processes and the Council traffic rules.

Regards and blessings,
The Primary Leadership Team
